Initials
Welcome to the Institute for Katology. I wanted to start with one of my favourite photos I've taken. On route between Temple Meads Station here in Bristol and Redcliff Hill I took this using the very charming little Olympus PEN E-P1 I had been using quite a lot until recently when I fixed up an OM-D E-M10 which has the quite significant advantage in my eyes of having an electronic viewfinder. It's perhaps an odd choice given the quite light aesthetics I have initially settled on for this website, but as one of the images that despite not being perfectly framed and the colour/light balance not being quite there I am just rather fond of it. I really like how you can almost feel the grime in the booth, but at the same time with the soft light it comes across as if not cosy, a little refuge from the dark.
Then you have the rock.
This wonderful hunk of rock absurdly put in place of a phonebook, the probable result of a drunken impulse. At the same time though the rock comes across as slightly ominous in how out of place it is, far older than even this worn out and smashed up phonebox. You imagine that somehow this had its own long lost role in communicating.
